Titanic Rising - Weyes Blood

It’s time to look at singer-songwriter Weyes Blood’s latest record, her first sub-pop release, Titanic Rising . Weyes Blood is an artist who has been working for years at crafting her sound. She’s the sort of artist who you’ve perhaps stumbled upon and listened to once on a late night of YouTube recommendations. You sit there intrigued by her sound of the carpenters meeting the 21 st century and sit mellowed out to her songs until suddenly its over and its forgettable, it simply doesn’t grab you, assault your ears and force you to remember it. Instead you look at the name Weyes Blood and think ‘hey I kind of like her.’ For me that was my experience with her song Do You Need My Love from Front Row Seat To Earth (2016) , I liked it but I didn’t love it. It soared, it was beautiful but it was shy of great. With Titanic Rising her sound hasn’t changed exactly. She hasn’t left the Karen Carpenter comparison behind but she no longer sounds quite so pastiche. ...

Deers

Image
In a attempt to appear at least slightly modern here is a little piece on one of the most fascinating young guitar bands. Deers are a all-female Spanish band who pretty much adhere strictly to the music set by NME as C86. Which is the genre name for a certain form of Indie Jangle Pop. If you follow Indie music its likely that you've heard of this band before. They've been getting blogged about and talked about by almost everyone who loves guitar music, and that is perhaps fair enough. They play their music in one of the most devil may care ramshackle attitudes that I've ever heard. They sound like Girlpool yet have hints of Phil Spector and The Wedding Present. They are unique. *Note. 7/1/14 Deers has changed their name to Hinds after threat of legal action from namesake band

The Genius Better Known As The Strokes

Image
The Strokes are without a doubt one of my favourite 2000s bands, their 2001 album 'Is this It?' is  my favourite album of the past 20 years. I anticipate that most people kno who they are (A Indie- Garage Rock Band) so i won't bore you with details of their brilliance. All you need to know is that they are genius. The Strokes are a american rock band formed in New York in 1999, with their membership including; Julian Casablancas (Singer), Nick Valensi (Lead Guitarist), Albert Hammond Jr (Guitarist) , Fabrizio Moretti (Drums),  Nikolai Fraiture (Bass). Alongside Detroit Based geniuses The White Stripes they helped usher in a new era of Garage Rock, While their debut album 'Is This It?' was declared the 199th best album ever by rolling stone magazine while i consider it the 65th best album ever. They Have Since Created 4 other albums with their latest 'comedown machine' being the best album of 2013 in my humble opinion VIVA LA STROKES
Many Moons have past since music last happily strode its way into schools and tore the pupils away from their textbooks. Many Moons have gone since the charts were last full of good old fashioned Rock And Roll. But Rock hasn't stopped its just been taking a breather, i mean the amount of drugs it did, come on now be fair, it deserves a breather. So how will this revival of music happen, well thats obvious in the underground, and im not taling about the teenage mutant ninja turtles. Im talking about the Underground, which was once laden in Velvet, the madchester underground. It's been here since Swing music and you can rest assured it will never leave us. This new generation of musicians, well lets just say I'm going to be championing them for the next while over this blog, in an attempt to make sure Bieber and his directions can surrender and waltz away (hopefully not to the last waltz). So follow me for a blog that reminises about the past and looks forward to the fu...
