Most significant Beatles performances

Image
In honour of the 40th anniversary John Lennon's last concert appearance: 28th November 1974. I'm going to list the top 5 most significant Beatles performances of their career. The band's touring schedule was famously cut short in 1966, after becoming increasingly annoyed with the fact that they could not hear themselves perform, and the fact that there songs could no longer be recreated for a audience with just 4 Beatles. Tour with Roy Orbison (May 18th - June 9th 1963)  Riding high off their Please Please Me album, Brian Epstein (The bands manager), organised a 'joint' tour between the Beatles and Rock N Roll superstar Roy Orbison.  The Beatles during the tour were reportedly shown up by Orbison's performances, and reports claim that Roy stole almost every show.  During the performances The Beatles wrote She Loves You and All My Loving during the tour.  George and John continued their friendship with Orbison after the tour, and George and Roy...

A few rules a notes for this post, firstly this i'm forcing myself to only include one album of each artist hence why there is only one Beatles album and One Bob Dylan album. Also this is personal opinion so don't start raising the townsfolk in arms just because you disagree.  10. Let It Bleed - Rolling Stones  The Beatles' great rivals finally succeeded in releasing a album to match the Beatles in 1969 thus cementing them into Rock's history.  9. Music From Big Pink - The Band The world's greatest backing band's first solo effort truly destroyed the minds of the musicians of 1968 and left many of them questioning the meaning of their music.  8. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - Pink Floyd Syd Barrett's masterpiece was glorious and was the best Floyd effort until Dark Side. However i consider this their 2nd best album overall with only Wish You Were Here topping it.  7. Tommy - The Who  The first true Rock Opera. No on ...

The Saga Of The Singer-Songwriter

When i mention the term singer songwrtier people will mention the great Bob Dylan for sure. But this term has meant something for generations and it is beginign to mean alot more with the new influx of singer-songwriters born in the early 1990s, In this post i am going to try to introduce you to the big game players of this boom. A Brief History Of The Singer-Songwriter Before the 1930s the singer-songwriters were a assorted bunch of unknown people who passed on tunes made by their ancestors. The first Great Singer-Songwriter was Robert Johnson the legendary blues figure who died at the age of 27, and left a legacy that was and is revered by all people who appreciate the blues. Following Johnson's untimely death the music world became seperated into two sectors the Songwriters and the performers neither willing to bridge the gap.  But in the 50s during the great blues boom and the start of Rock 'n' Roll songwriting and singing became the norm although most songwr...

Top 5 Beatles Albums

Image
This type of list has been done a million times, and there's a reason why. You can't label the Beatles (as a whole) as any Genre, hence why i'm showing you the best of the best. Although I can't help but stress the fact that i Love the Beatles and may be (ever so slightly) bias towards them. 5- Abbey Road - Released 1969 Ah, yes the most iconic album cover of all time. The "greatest" Beatles album.  So why is at number 5? Well, why don't you the educated reader of this post look at is track listing. If you're a casual Beatles fan you may recognise songs like "Something", "Octopus's Garden", "Here Comes The Sun or "Come Together" but how many of the other songs can you identify with based just on the title? not many i'll bet. I can just about remember half the songs by reading their title the other half... well don't ask me! 4- Rubber Soul - Released 1965 Now this is a album. This is ...
